Britain’s Got Talent Fifth Live Semi-Final

I did a quick round-up of each week of auditions for weeks 1 and 2 together click here, week 3’s here, for week’s 4, for week’s 5 click this link , for week 6’s
click here and finally for week’s 7 auditions and judges decisions on who was going to make it to semi-finals click this link.
For my opinion on the first semi-final click here, for the second here, for the third here and the fourth one is here.

NB: This post gives a quick explanation of the golden buzzer. Remember too that this is just my opinion and does not necessarily reflect the view of the act or ITV/ Britain’s Got Talent. If you haven’t seen the acts below I’m sure you can find them on ITV’s website, or the app if you are in the UK, if not use that trusty search engine (looks a bit like the word goggle) to see if you can find videos of them.

Thursday night the act that won the public vote was Bars and Melody. Those boys have a cheeky charming nature and are brilliantly talented so I’m not surprised they won. They are just so adorable, they will be one of my favourites for the final.

It was the last live semi-finals and the acts I most looked forward to were:
Paddy and Nico (Amanda’s golden buzzer act)
Kings and Queens
Jack Pack

But did the acts I was looking forward to live up to my hopes? Or was I wowed by an act I hadn’t expected to like? Well my expectation acts and stand-out acts were:

Kings and Queens again didn’t stick to your traditional Latin dance music and moves. The first part just doesn’t work for me. The music and moves just didn’t gel but then at the quick costume change I loved them again. They then went on to Latin dance to a Peter Andre track! Takes skill to make something like that work. To me they tied into the closing theme/move of the audition with all members of the group lying on the floor bar one girl left standing. Maybe if they get into final they all plan to lie down? Or mix it up with one guy left? Or one is lying down all standing? Or maybe one will fly off into the rafters? Who knows?

Kieran Lai was not brilliant but I enjoyed watching his performance. He is a 17 year old dancer and loved the concept of him breaking out the capsule then helping other capsules of himself break free. Some of the dancing wasn’t great especially about the middle but it was a very imaginative and modern dance idea. I wasn’t thrilled by his music choices either but still again I reiterate it was imaginative and different meaning it was good for me.

Paddy and Nico we’re not due to be on tonight. Why? Paddy had injured herself a couple of weeks ago and on Thursday night it was announced that she would not be able to participate in the show due to her injuries. Today though she was cleared by a doctor to perform, but they had to do a tamer, less risky routine than what had been planned. Now to their performance tonight. Their act started off with a line of dancers exiting the stage leaving just them. They then did a bit of tame moves and I was happy with that thinking well they do have injuries to consider if that’s all they can do tonight good for them, but then they did aeroplanes (my years watching Dancing On Ice have paid off) and some cartwheels. More moves I lost track of which were shockingly awesome. For a nearly 80 year old Paddy is amazing. My gran is about ages with her, and my gran can barely walk never mind be flung about a stage! I really want them to do well in this competition. They got a standing ovation from all four judges and the crowd. Simon was very pleased with himself on Thursday night as his is the only golden buzzer act to go through to live finals, well since Paddy and Nico have done their act I’m not so sure he will be as pleased.

Jack Pack did My Way their way and did it fantastically. It started off a bit shaky but once they got into it they nailed it. Their performance earned them a standing ovation from the crowd and all judges. Their act was the best end to a semi-final I think I’ve ever seen.

The act I would be happy to see perform again at the finals would be:
Kings and Queens

But I’d very happy to see the next two acts in the final:
Paddy and Nico
Jack Pack

I will post at some point during the week about my thoughts on tonight’s winner. I will also comment on who I am most looking forward to seeing in the final from who has gone through from all nights.

That’s the semi-finals over with just the results show to be done for tonight. What have you thought of the acts tonight? Was there any acts you didn’t enjoy tonight? Did any acts impress you tonight? Leave your thoughts for me to read.

Britain’s Got Talent Fourth Live Semi-Final

I did a quick round-up of each week of auditions for weeks 1 and 2 together click here, week 3’s here, for week’s 4, for week’s 5 click this link , for week 6’s
click here and finally for week’s 7 auditions and judges decisions on who was going to make it to semi-finals click this link.
For my opinion on the first semi-final click here, for the second here and for the third here.

Last night the act that won the public vote was Lucy Kay. She was one of the two acts I hoped would win. Unfortunately the other act I’d have chose (REAformed) didn’t get through.

Of tonight’s live semi-finals the acts I most looked forward to were:
Bars and Melody (Simon’s golden buzzer act)
Innova
Light Balance

But did my look out for acts live up to my expectations? Or did an act I wasn’t looking forward to watching change my opinion of them? Well my expectation acts and stand-out acts were:

Innova were the first act of the night and they gave a fabulous opening to the show. They even through in the buzz word/action of a Selfie halfway in. I loved it and wanted to see more as it is a different style dancing we haven’t really seen before on Britain’s Got Talent, plus they put their own modern spin on it making it very much an enjoyable viewing.

Light Balance started their act of with a crazy professor doing some kind of mixing of liquids in beakers (from my chemistry school days I’d say distillation in some form was taking place) at the side of the stage. Our crazy professor then walked to the middle of the stage and did some moves with being rippled down the stage and back again. It was quite fun and interesting to watch.

Bars and Melody in the video before their act it was shown they have become a hit and they have been on many talk shows including ones in America. The boys also said in their video that the song they were doing tonight was another rap they wrote themselves about losing a loved one but once they started singing it was their rap with a mash-up of the song I’ll be missing you by Puff Daddy. The audience and judges used led lighters in the air to the beat of the song. They got a standing ovation from the crowd and all four judges. Simon said of his golden buzzer act “they were amazing” and I think that sums them up. They also thanked Simon for his golden buzzer.

So no other acts truly wowed me, but I did enjoy some other acts. I would be happy with any of the above acts to go through but my first choice would be Bars and Melody then Innova. The next show is on Saturday night so with Saturday’s review I’ll give my thoughts on tonight’s winning act.

What did you think of tonight’s performances? Was there a stand-out act for you? Will there be weird gap for you tomorrow night around 7.30pm were you are obsessively taping your smartphone/tablet and wondering why? Let me know your thoughts.

Britain’s Got Talent Third Live Semi-Final

I did a quick round-up of each week of auditions for weeks 1 and 2 together click here, week 3’s here, for week’s 4, for week’s 5 click this link , for week 6’s
click here and finally for week’s 7 auditions and judges decisions on who was going to make it to semi-finals click this link.
For my opinion on the first semi-final click here and for the second here.

Last night the act that won the public vote was James Smith. I’m very pleased he won, and as much as I hate how many singers end up in the semi-finals and finals, I think he deserved his place as he is very a talented singer shown by his acoustic performance but also wanted Jodi Bird as the act to go through on the judges vote. But hey there is always a wild card and so far I’d give it to her or to John Clegg.

Of tonight’s live semi-finals the acts I most looked forward to were:
REAformed (Alesha’s golden buzzer act)
Sam Jones

But did my look out for acts live up to my expectations? Or did an act I wasn’t looking forward to watching change my opinion of them? Well my expectation acts and stand-out acts were:

Sam Jones revealed in his video before the act that he has Tourette’s syndrome. Some of his jokes were quite funny but it might have been nerves or his Tourette’s but it wasn’t as great as the audition, that said there have been far worse acts in the semi-finals. At least the act made me laugh.

REAformed sang a song I didn’t recognise but they nailed it. The outfits weren’t to my taste but that shouldn’t take away from their ability to sing. Their performance earned them 3 judges giving a standing ovation. I agree with David’s comments “sometimes it’s like we are watching stars and watching you girls tonight it was like we were watching a massive pop group”.

Lucy Kay is a opera singer, which if you have read my other posts you will know I’m not a opera fan. Her act though was mesmerising as she hit every note (well I think she did) and the crowd and judges all gave her a standing ovation. That says a lot as Simon doesn’t often give standing ovations so she must be an outstanding singer.

Of tonight’s acts I only have two that my vote to go through would go to:
REAformed
Lucy Kay

The results show won’t be long and hopefully my act choices will go through. Tomorrow’s post will include my thoughts on tonight’s winner.

Did you enjoy the acts tonight? Would gave the best performance in your view? Have one of the acts you have seen from any of the nights so far got the potential to win? Looking forward to reading your thoughts.

Britain’s Got Talent Second Live Semi-Final

I did a quick round-up of each week of auditions for weeks 1 and 2 together click here, week 3’s here, for week’s 4, for week’s 5 click this link , for week 6’s
click here and finally for week’s 7 auditions and judges decisions on who was going to make it to semi-finals click this link.
For my opinion on the first semi-final click here.

Last night Collabro won the public vote. They are a musical theatre group. They definitely can sing but their song choices so far have been too classical/operatic for me. I’m glad they are through as they have got talent, just not my personal taste so far.

Of tonight’s live semi-finals the acts I most looked forward to were:
Bolddog FMX Team
Ed Drewett
Kony Puppets

But did my look out for acts surpass my expectations? Or did one act I was expecting to hate actually surprise me? Well my expectation acts and stand-out acts were:

Ed Drewett sang the same original song of his as at his audition. He had a live band behind him this time. I’m still trying to figure out who his voice reminds me of. The crowd giving a standing ovation shows they appreciated his performance. I liked his song so it was good to hear it again but I’m on the fence as to whether he should have played us a different song or not.

Bolddog FMX Team due to their act, they had to pre-record their act but only got one go and no editing, to make it just as though it was a live act. To me there was only a few different stunts from their audition, however they took the act to the next stage by adding fire. If they get through I wonder what they will do to up the act? Simon suggested mini bikes for the stunts, yeah that could up the danger factor.

Jodi Bird sang another musical theatre song. She has a good and strong voice, she definitely has a huge career ahead of her as she is very talented in this field. I can see her at the very least being in live musical touring companies, coming to a theatre near you soon style or with her exposure on this show she may end up lending her voice to blockbuster musicals.

Kony Puppets were funny, but they could have polished their act a little more for the live semi-finals. All four judges buzzed so the act was cut short. I do like the idea but I think they need to be more refined.

James Smith was a brilliant 15 year old guitar player and singer. Very bravely he sang acoustic on a live performance in a competition but he delivered and didn’t let himself down. I see him with an album out in the near future and hundreds of teenage girls running after him.

I think I’m turning into a harsh judge, the acts really have to impress me by having talent, originality and something new as I’ve been watching Britain’s Got Talent since the first year and it is starting to get repetitive in some ways. The results will be revealed soon and I will post about them with tomorrow’s live semi final post.

So are you now into the semi-finals routine? Has an act not gone through yet that you would give the wild card? Do you agree with my opinion on tonight’s show? Leave a comment.

Britain’s Got Talent First Live Semi-Final

click here and finally for week’s 7 auditions and judges decisions on who was going to make it to semi-finals click this link.

Of tonight’s live semi-finals the acts I most looked forward to were:
Countryvive
Patsy May
John Clegg

But did my look out for acts match my expectations? Or did one I not expect to enjoy surprise me? Well my expectation acts and stand-out acts were:

Countryvive I liked but I wasn’t wowed by them as I was at their audition. Maybe their song choice wasn’t quite right? I preferred the second half of their act tonight, but the first part just ,in my opinion, didn’t work.

Lauren & Terrell were a duo of 12 year olds who to me did a mission impossible kind of theme for their dance act. I was impressed with Terrell jumping through Lauren’s leg and arm circle, almost like an animal act that jumps through hoops.

Patsy May I loved, but as the judges said I would have loved more stand-up/ one liners from her. She did singing with a few gags in between but nonetheless the act put a smile on my face.

John Clegg did more impressions and most were done fantastically. One or two were not quite right but his Ant and Dec were hilarious especially when you saw Ant and Dec’s reaction. I also loved the set of a TV set but he should have made it a modern LCD set rather than a 70’s style wooden TV set.

Collabro have good voices but I’m just not a classical/ opera type fan which to me their song choice falls under. I found myself not liking the song but liking their strong vocals and harmonising, so if they picked a different song but still within their vocal range I’d love them.

My choices to go through to live finals from tonight’s semi-finals would be any of the following:
Lauren & Terrell
Patsy May
John Clegg
Collabro

I can’t wait for the results and will post about them with tomorrow’s live semi final post.

So did you enjoy the first live semi-final this year? Did any acts not live up to their audition standard for you? Did any wow you? I’d be happy to read your comments.

Britain’s Got Talent Week 7 round-up

There were only a few auditions tonight, and of them my stand-out acts were:

Ellis Chick was a 12 year old who sang a Michael Buble number. He was a mini-me of David Walliams, and David got up to sing with him.

Sam Jones was a ventriloquist who used his voice for a little baby ventriloquist doll. He was funny as he also did impressions via the doll. His act was good as it provides variety.

Toju Okorodudu was a comedian who did have some funny impressions and funny comments but to me he was just okay, not the best I’ve seen but not the worst. There was only 3 judges but all of them and the crowd gave a standing ovation. Ant and Dec loved them so much that they pushed the golden buzzer.

Tonight part of the show was about who was making it through to the live semi-finals, which begin tomorrow night through to Thursday night and another on Saturday night. Of the acts through the ones I’m most looking forward to seeing in the live semi-finals are:

Countryvive
Light Balance
Paddy and Nico
Bolddog FMX Team
Innova
Kings and Queens
Patsy May
REAformed
Jack Pack
John Clegg
Bars and Melody
Kony Puppets
Sam Jones

I can’t wait for tomorrow night. What did you think of tonight’s auditions and decisions for the live semi-finals? Do you agree with the judges? Are you looking forward to the live shows? Leave your comments below.

Britain’s Got Talent Week 6 round-up

I did a quick round-up of weeks 1 and 2 together here, week 3’s round-up can be found here, for week 4’s round-up click here and for week 5’s round-up click this link.

Tonight my stand-out acts were:

Tom Pham was a male singer dressed in a, well dress. The act was a stand-out not for the act itself, but for making David fall out of his seat!

Ed Drewett was a male singer/ songwriter who sang one of his originals. He has co-authored some famous songs. His voice has a honest acoustic sound and reminds me of some other famous singer, but can I recall who right now? No unfortunately I can’t and it will bug me that I can’t think who it is. If you seen this act and you think you know which singer am thinking of please leave a comment of who it is. It really is annoying me now and no doubt you. Sorry that I haven’t been able to think of who it is that I’ve been reminded of, I guess you will just have to watch and make up your own mind and let me know.

Kony Puppets were a trio from Poland who put on a puppeteer act with a difference. The trio performed in front of a black screen and in black costumes (so you could not see them) with well what can only be called full-sized puppets attached to them, so that when the “puppeteer” danced the “puppet” moved. Quite funny and good fun.

Jodi Bird was a 16 year old singer who sang a musical song. A few lines in Simon put his hand up for the act to stop, normally when he does this it is because he does not agree with the song choice as it doesn’t suit that singers voice. However this time it was purely because he didn’t like the song but with Amanda’s support she started singing the same song again and got four judges to all give a yes.

Which acts were stand-outs for you? Do you agree with my comments? Can you think who Ed Drewett is reminding me of? Leave your thoughts please.

Planning an Ikea trip with kids

***This post contains a link to a product but I do not receive any payment or reward for this link, it is just to demonstrate a point of products having multiple uses.***

Well tomorrow my mum and I are taking Bambi and Cinderella to Ikea. I have so many projects on the go, all of the time. For example I’m still working on some things for this blog such as a 3D shapes pack for pre-schoolers and homemade cleaner recipes, various craft projects that I’m working on, in fact I’m sure I have projects for projects for projects going on. I’m always looking for new projects to take on. My latest addition to the spinning plates of projects: my built-in cupboard/closet in my bedroom.

This project is why I’m going to Ikea. My cupboard firstly hasn’t been touched decorating wise in over a decade. Yes you read right. My bedroom has been re-decorated in that time, but not thy cupboard. It has one shelf about 2/3rd’s of the way up the longest wall with a rail below it. This was great at first, but now when Bambi and Cinderella come to visit and I notice something that will intrigue them, or something I want to keep as a surprise for them, or just generally something I don’t want them touching/playing with gets flung in there. Currently I have a box of trains and train track pieces in there covering my shoes, so every time I go to get a pair of shoes I have to wrestle the box out the cupboard retrieve the shoes then wrestle the box back in there.

I’m fed up with this and the mess in there, so for a few weeks I’ve been using my Pinterest account to search and pin many things, but especially inspiration for redecorating this cupboard. It amazes me how people take an item and can use them in different ways, for example the Bekvam spice rack I’ve seen used as a spice rack, but also a place to store other jar types like nail polish and drinking glasses, also seen it holding books so it becomes a mini bookshelf. I’ve seen this spice rack in bathrooms turned upside down to provide a shelf and towel rail. You can gather a lot of ideas.

Most of the things I want I’ll be able to get from Ikea, such as the spice rack, hooks, more rails, some shelves and so on. I can’t wait for tomorrow and neither can the kids.

So to the planning the trip with them. I had told Bambi about my plans to update cupboard and he got very excited as I pointed to various places in the cupboard and told him what I plan to put in there. I asked him if he and Cinderella would want to go with granny and I to Ikea and help me get the things. Of course in an excited voice he said yes, and I already knowing the answer checked to see if he would help me find everything and put it in trolley. Again a happy and excited yes came from his little mouth.

I’ve been using the facility on Ikea’s website to create a shopping list then print it out. I now have a list of things I need from there, and the products that you collect in the self-service area all have their aisle and location on the printout. I foresaw ahead trying to show Bambi and Cinderella the tiny picture that accompanies each item on the printout and a fight erupting over who gets to hold it and poor aunt going home with only half the things she wanted.

Solution: preparation. I checked the list for the items you don’t get in self-service, i.e. the ones in baskets etc throughout the store. I went onto Ikea’s website again, looked up some of the items that would be safe for the kids to look out for (things like storage boxes and the spice rack which wouldn’t break if the kids picked them up), saved the images of the items and made a “shopping list” with the pictures. At the bottom of the list I include the aisle numbers of the items to get in self-service for Bambi to look out for and to help Cinderella start recognising numbers. Again foreseeing a fight I printed out a copy each added a few blank sheets of paper behind it and stapled them together. When we get there I’ll give them one of those Ikea free pencils each to tick of the items and if they get bored looking they can use the extra blank sheets to draw on.

We will be going for breakfast there too as it’s fairly cheap, and I can get a coffee so that by the time we are halfway through the store I can get an energy boost am sure I’ll be needing. I wonder if anywhere does a sanity shot? I’m sure I’ll need that too. Lol. In fact I think I need it now. What was I thinking planning a trip shopping with under 5’s? I think I’m thinking of the fact I get to spend time with my nephew and niece and I love them to bits and want to create memories with them, knowing they’ll remember these moments.

Well I’m going to finish getting things ready for tomorrow as I know the kids will be eager to go as soon as they arrive (my sister-in-law was on phone earlier saying when Bambi woke up the first thing he said “mummy don’t give me breakfast as I’m having breakfast at Ikea” and his mum had to explain it is tomorrow he goes to Ikea). If the shopping list idea is a success I’ll let you know.

What things have you done to create memories with the kids in your life? How do you handle shopping trips with kids? If you haven’t done something similar to my shopping list, has this post given you inspiration to try something like it? Have you used an Ikea product in ways they weren’t designed for like the spice rack as a bookshelf or as a shelf with a towel rail? Hope to hear from you, my readers, so leave a comment if you wish.

Britain’s Got Talent Week 5 round-up

I did a quick round-up of weeks 1 and 2 together here, week 3’s round-up can be found here and for week 4’s round-up is here.

Tonight my stand-out acts were:

John Clegg a comedy impressionist who had tears rolling down my face from laughing so much. Only one or two were not quite as great as they could have been but most were so accurate and therefore highly hilarious. I hope he makes it into the live semi-finals as it would be great to have a funny impressionist, as I’ve wrote before it is a variety show and having something a little different is what makes it variety, not a lot of the similar acts that then become boring as you’ve “seen it before”.

Bars and Melody are two rapping and singing young boys who have charisma and cute cheekiness. The audience were behind them, standing up while they were still singing their own song with a anti-bullying message. At the end they got a standing ovation from the whole crowd and judges. Simon listened to the chants from the crowd “Push the gold” and smiled and hit the golden buzzer. I can see them going far, especially as Simon is the one who gave the buzzer, I know he will support them all the way.

A lot of tonight’s show had a “weird” “creepy” vibe to them, so that’s all my stand-out acts for tonight.

Britain’s Got Talent Week 4 round-up

I did a quick round-up of weeks 1 and 2 together here and week 3’s round-up can be found here.

Tonight my stand-out acts were:

Patsy May was hilarious. The act was in essence a puppet act, but was done very well, not a outdated puppet act. The act got Ant and Dec to join in the fun. Simon Cowell doesn’t tend to like this kind of act as far as I’m aware from how he has reacted previous years but he laughed along with this act.

REAformed was a girl band, with maybe not the best vocals yet, but with a little practice their natural ability will get better. They have a special dynamic and chemistry that easily comes through even on TV. When Alesha Dixon was asked her for her comments, she hit the golden buzzer, then went on stage to hug the trio saying they reminded her of when she was in Mis-Teeq and will support them all the way.

Jack Pack were a boy band but not a pop type band. David Walliams said (not exact words) they are a swing boy band. I agree. They have a 60’s swing music vibe, a modern Frank Sinatra in a band. Lovely to have a different kind of band/music represented, as I said in another post it does get boring hearing/seeing the same things but this changes it up a bit.

Eva Iglesias was a lady who got a standing ovation from the crowd, David Walliams, Alesha Dixon and Amanda Holden. She gave it her all and she sang her heart out. She revealed when the judges were talking after that she almost didn’t come for her audition but I think she’ll be glad she did after all she got a yes from all four judges.

So there we have it, my views on tonight’s Britain’s Got Talent. What are your thoughts? Did you agree with the golden buzzer tonight? Leave your comments please.
