Britain’s Got Talent 2015 Third Live Semi-Final

I did a quick round-up of week 1’s audition amongst another post, which you can find here. For week 2, click here, week 3 here, week 4’s, week 5’s here, week 6’s is here and finally for week’s 7 auditions and my thoughts on who I’m most looking forward to in the semi-finals click this link.

For my thoughts on the first live semi-final, click here and the second here.

Jules O’Dwyer & Matisse won last night on the public vote. I could jump for joy as I really wanted them to win. The judges couldn’t reach a majority vote for their choice so it went back to the public vote. The public voted Old Men Grooving as their number 2 act last night. I’m so pleased the 2 acts I loved got through.

Of tonight’s live semi-finals the acts I most looked forward to were:

Ella Shaw

IMD Legion

The Sakyi Five

UDI

Did I get as excited by these acts as I hoped? Or did I love another act that wasn’t on my radar? Read on to find out:

The Sakyi Five – The act began with the 4 eldest brothers centre stage in monochrome singing Love Never Felt So Good, clearly missing was the youngest brother. Who a few lines in, appeared behind the judges facing the audience for a bit of a solo then joined his brothers on stage. I agree with Alesha’s comment that it was a great start to the show.

UDI – Similar moves as was done toward the middle and end of their audition kicked of their act tonight. Making me think it was a continuation of the story. Maybe it was. However I struggled to follow the storyline this time, it was a little disjointed. Shame I was hoping to be very entertained by them.

Ella Shaw – Everybody’s Free was the song she chose to sing tonight. I’ve heard it as a dance track before but she sang it more stripped back with a host of backing singers, which was nice. As the golden glitter fell around her during the performance I couldn’t help but think that she has got a career in music but she should stick to the kind of song style and piano playing that she did at her audition.

Gracie Wickens-Sweet – A 11 or 12 (can’t remember which) year old singer. In a gorgeous white dress she was lowered on a swing from the ceiling as she sang a song called Reflection, which I’ve never heard before. At times I could see her nerves about to overwhelm her but amazingly they didn’t, she took control of her nerves not her nerves taking control of her. An adult can struggle to control their nerves  but for her at such a young age to learn to control them and have a powerful voice makes her a real contender for a spot in the finals.

IMD Legion – They had a few of their crew on stage to begin with, in navy/black outfits with silver at joints such as their shoulders. The rest of their crew either jumped on stage from in front of the judges or from the wings of the stage. Action packed, and again I found myself thinking they were on a par with Diversity (winners of BGT 2009). The theme for this dance made it a dancing crew of superheroes.

Based solely on tonight’s performance I would be happy for any of the following to make it through to the live finals:

The Sakyi Five

Gracie Wickens-Sweet

IMD Legion

The results of tonight show and my thoughts on them, will be posted along with tomorrow’s live semi-final post.

What did you think of this year’s third semi-final? Did any act you were looking forward to let you down? Or were you pleasantly surprised by an act? Thanks for reading this post and thanks too, for any comments you may leave.

NB: This post gives a quick explanation of the golden buzzer. Remember too that this is just my opinion and does not necessarily reflect the view of the act or ITV/ Britain’s Got Talent. If you haven’t seen the acts above I’m sure you can find them on ITV’s website, or the app if you are in the UK, if not use that trusty search engine (looks a bit like the word goggle) to see if you can find videos of them.

Britain’s Got Talent 2015 Week 5 round-up

I apologise for the lateness of this post. Parts of the reviews I made on the day, others later but where I have reviewed at a later time I’ve tried my best to give the thoughts I had at the time of first viewing. Week 5 auditions were on Saturday 9 May 2015.

I did a quick round-up of week 1’s audition amongst another post, which you can find here. For week 2, click here, week 3 here and week 4’s.

Was there any stand out acts for me tonight? Yes for various reasons, here they are:

Vladimir Georgievsky – a middle aged, married dad of 2. His kids have a trampoline and he brought it to do his act. Amanda’s said that it was just like a throwback to the silent movie era. Why? Because he did trampolining  slapstick style. It didn’t feel dated though, it was a fresh act that I really enjoyed. I just hope he was wearing padding, under his professoresque suit, from his neck down to his ankles as I’m guessing it hurt. A lot.

Entity Allstars –  a dance group of kids aged 10-15. From their shirts I thought maybe country/line dancing but nope. Street dance/hip hop style. Simon recognised one of the boys, as he had been a dancer for his sister, Lauren Platt, who was a contestant on X Factor. Entity Allstars were pretty good, and Alesha loved them so much she gave them her golden buzzer.

DJ John –  a man who got the crowd, 3 out of 4 judges (not Simon) on his side and Ant & Dec, dancing along to a tune he brought with him (he didn’t make the song nor remix it). In fact Ant & Dec put on a t-shirt with his name and joined him on stage to dance. I wouldn’t say he has talent but gets a mention due to how much of a smile and laugh I got from Simon’s expressions.

Ella Shaw – a 18 year old singer-songwriter. She played the piano as she sang her own song called Summertime. Her vocals were beautiful to listen to and she played the piano so well. Some of the lyrics in her own song could do with refining but nonetheless she has a talent.

OK Worldwide – group of 4 guys doing a combination of dance, acrobatics, gymnastics and free running. They brought with them, what can only be described as a low level coffee table that they did some of their act upon, by bouncing on and of it. I loved their Mexican wave styled backflips. A good bit of energy packed variety.

UDI – a group of young men from Siberia who brought a friend with them to be their translator. At first they are somewhat comparable to Attraction (winners of BGT 2013). Do you know what though? I can’t really describe their act other than behind a screen they do their act and it starts out like a disney film then seems to cross over into a kind of live action video game. I became so engrossed watching the story unfold.

Alison Jiear – a mum who came to sing. Having been a backing singer for 30 years, she can sing but wants to show what else she can do. Is she good enough to be a singer on her own, not just backing vocals? Yes she is. Simon said “that was probably one of the best vocals we’ve ever had on the show.”. I hope she gets through to semi-finals.

Another round of auditions over and I’m truly surprised and overwhelmed by the amount of acts I loved tonight. Was tonight’s auditions the best yet? What did you enjoy?

Britain’s Got Talent 2015 Week 2 round-up

I did a quick round-up of week 1’s audition amongst another post, which you can find here.

Tonight my stand-out acts were:

Boyband – a group of 5 male dancers, not singers as their name may suggest and they had a lot of energy. Once again I found I wasn’t excited by them but just like last week when Simon hit his buzzer for Calum Scott, Ant and Dec must have been excited because Boyband are Ant and Dec’s golden buzzer act this year.

Becky O’Brien – a wonderful singer. Before she began singing we got a bit of her life story, she shared that she is a single mum to 5 kids, including premature twins which meant she had be putting their life first. She escaped an abusive marriage. It was her eldest child Jack, who is 11 years old, at the end of last year’s BGT told his mum to audition and said “why don’t you show Simon how it is done?”. Even without her back story I’d love her, as she is a true natural singer. You should definitely try to hear her singing Somewhere Over The Rainbow. All through her performance I kept thinking what or who is she reminding me of, and I think Alesha got it right when she commented “Your voice, it’s like it’s from a different era”. I think Simon’s comment summed up her performance though with a simple “Wow”. I’m not surprised she got a yes from each judge but I am surprised she did not get the golden buzzer.

Jeffrey Drayton – Jeffrey describes himself as a magical entertainer. I’d personally call him a comedian. He’s one of those people who has a talent for making others laugh while being oblivious that what he is doing or saying is hilarious. Jeffrey was on roller skates and had a puppet through which he did such awfully bad ventriloquism it was actually very entertaining. He had Ant and Dec select a card before he went on stage then they had to throw a pack of cards containing the one they selected in the air as he shot the puppet out of a canon. If you’re struggling to understand what I just typed as it seems bizarre, don’t worry, it was the bizarreness of the act that if you get the chance to watch will, am sure, make you love it too.

Well that’s another week of auditions over. Did you love this week? What acts did you enjoy? I’d be very happy to read your thoughts, so go ahead and comment and thanks for reading this post.

Britain’s Got Talent Third Live Semi-Final

I did a quick round-up of each week of auditions for weeks 1 and 2 together click here, week 3’s here, for week’s 4, for week’s 5 click this link , for week 6’s
click here and finally for week’s 7 auditions and judges decisions on who was going to make it to semi-finals click this link.
For my opinion on the first semi-final click here and for the second here.

NB: This post gives a quick explanation of the golden buzzer. Remember too that this is just my opinion and does not necessarily reflect the view of the act or ITV/ Britain’s Got Talent. If you haven’t seen the acts below I’m sure you can find them on ITV’s website, or the app if you are in the UK, if not use that trusty search engine (looks a bit like the word goggle) to see if you can find videos of them.

Last night the act that won the public vote was James Smith. I’m very pleased he won, and as much as I hate how many singers end up in the semi-finals and finals, I think he deserved his place as he is very a talented singer shown by his acoustic performance but also wanted Jodi Bird as the act to go through on the judges vote. But hey there is always a wild card and so far I’d give it to her or to John Clegg.

Of tonight’s live semi-finals the acts I most looked forward to were:
REAformed (Alesha’s golden buzzer act)
Sam Jones

But did my look out for acts live up to my expectations? Or did an act I wasn’t looking forward to watching change my opinion of them? Well my expectation acts and stand-out acts were:

Sam Jones revealed in his video before the act that he has Tourette’s syndrome. Some of his jokes were quite funny but it might have been nerves or his Tourette’s but it wasn’t as great as the audition, that said there have been far worse acts in the semi-finals. At least the act made me laugh.

REAformed sang a song I didn’t recognise but they nailed it. The outfits weren’t to my taste but that shouldn’t take away from their ability to sing. Their performance earned them 3 judges giving a standing ovation. I agree with David’s comments “sometimes it’s like we are watching stars and watching you girls tonight it was like we were watching a massive pop group”.

Lucy Kay is a opera singer, which if you have read my other posts you will know I’m not a opera fan. Her act though was mesmerising as she hit every note (well I think she did) and the crowd and judges all gave her a standing ovation. That says a lot as Simon doesn’t often give standing ovations so she must be an outstanding singer.

Of tonight’s acts I only have two that my vote to go through would go to:
REAformed
Lucy Kay

The results show won’t be long and hopefully my act choices will go through. Tomorrow’s post will include my thoughts on tonight’s winner.

Did you enjoy the acts tonight? Would gave the best performance in your view? Have one of the acts you have seen from any of the nights so far got the potential to win? Looking forward to reading your thoughts.

Britain’s Got Talent Week 4 round-up

I did a quick round-up of weeks 1 and 2 together here and week 3’s round-up can be found here.

Tonight my stand-out acts were:

Patsy May was hilarious. The act was in essence a puppet act, but was done very well, not a outdated puppet act. The act got Ant and Dec to join in the fun. Simon Cowell doesn’t tend to like this kind of act as far as I’m aware from how he has reacted previous years but he laughed along with this act.

REAformed was a girl band, with maybe not the best vocals yet, but with a little practice their natural ability will get better. They have a special dynamic and chemistry that easily comes through even on TV. When Alesha Dixon was asked her for her comments, she hit the golden buzzer, then went on stage to hug the trio saying they reminded her of when she was in Mis-Teeq and will support them all the way.

Jack Pack were a boy band but not a pop type band. David Walliams said (not exact words) they are a swing boy band. I agree. They have a 60’s swing music vibe, a modern Frank Sinatra in a band. Lovely to have a different kind of band/music represented, as I said in another post it does get boring hearing/seeing the same things but this changes it up a bit.

Eva Iglesias was a lady who got a standing ovation from the crowd, David Walliams, Alesha Dixon and Amanda Holden. She gave it her all and she sang her heart out. She revealed when the judges were talking after that she almost didn’t come for her audition but I think she’ll be glad she did after all she got a yes from all four judges.

So there we have it, my views on tonight’s Britain’s Got Talent. What are your thoughts? Did you agree with the golden buzzer tonight? Leave your comments please.
