Is everything the same or changed?

So apart from my last post, which was the long overdue post to its predecessor, the blogging world hasn’t heard from me in over a year and a half. So has anything changed? Of course.

Bambi is now seven and Cinderella is four, and she will be starting school after this summer. What hasn’t changed is how much I love them, no wait, that’s incorrect. When I learn something new about them it makes me love them even more, and makes me proud to be their aunt, so a year and a half later I love them far more than I did.

2016 was a crazy year for me, well everyone really. My heart broke with a death of a pet, but it was shattered watching the kids go through it. The pet was their nine year old dog, that my brother and sister-in-law had since he was about 10 weeks old. From the maths you’ll realise that means the kids grew up with him. Their dog was there watching over them, playing with them and in a world that changes, having him be there as a constant loving being. To relive it just now describing why and how he died would be too much for me, maybe some other time I’ll blog about it, but it’s been about 8 months, and I still see their grief every time I see them. I know grief doesn’t have a set time to go away, but watching them be torn apart by their dog’s death is heart wrenching. 

In 2016 my health also took a downturn, and as that is a long story to explain what health issues I have I’ll have to address them in another post. I just thought I’d mention it in this long list of changes in my life. 

Without going into too many details, I also, last year, became a volunteer contributor for a newsletter for a charity. I have loved doing this, and can’t wait to keep doing more contributions. The reason I won’t go into many details is my real name is used on the contributions, and for various reasons I chose when setting up this blog to use a pseudonym. To say a lot about the volunteering may lead to putting two and two together, so I hope you understand why I’m not sharing too much.

I guess the major change would be what happened for me in 2015. It happened about 2 months after my last post mentioned above, so although I had been delayed writing my blog entry that I finally posted last week, this just pushed it into impossible to do at this time. So what happened? Excitingly for me I got a home. I had lived with my parents and my dog, but had been looking for my own place. I finally got one, it’s a flat (for those more familiar with American terminology – apartment – though is it technically an apartment if it’s just two floors of homes?). My one bedroom flat is rented from the local authority. Max isn’t one hundred percent thrilled, as people come through “his” main door. If the main door bangs shut, not only do I hear it, but I then have to hear his disapproving bark. I love my dog, but sometimes I wish he had a mute button lol.

I think that’s all the major in my life in the last year and a half, sorry that it’s only a brief review of them. With all them changes though, it means I’ll have to update my About Me page. I hope to be able to do that and post about my health issues soon. If my regular readers are on my blog, they may notice that I have updated the blog slightly. Rather than the image of a field there is now a pen and paper, in the hopes it might inspire me to write more.

Britain’s Got Talent 2015 Winner

Firstly, apologies as this post is long overdue but as I promised it here it is, and I definitely couldn’t allow 2016 to pass without a post. I’m hoping to get back into my blogging, and hopefully can update all my loyal readers who have stuck with me about the long hiatus.

I had stated I wanted Jules O’Dwyer and Matisse to win. I mean with a tightrope walking dog who gives sausages to a three legged dog, how many people could actually wish for them not to win? Who could say no them?

The winner was Jules O’Dwyer and Matisse! I was so thrilled! The bonus was getting to watch the act all over again! I hope they do go far.

Britain’s Got Talent 2015 Live Final

Calum Scott (Simon’s golden buzzer) won the public vote on Friday night’s show. Danny Posthill went through as the public’s number 2 as the judges could not reach a majority vote. I’m very happy that Danny Posthill will be in the final as it will add variety in the final as he is an impressionist. However, although Calum Scott is a good singer, I don’t think he is as good as the hype around him would suggest.

Based upon their performance in the semi-finals, the acts in the live final I was most excited to see were:

Old Men Grooving 

The Neales

Did these acts deliver in the final? Or did the act’s performance in the final not live up to expectations? Here are my comments on the above acts:

The Neales – It is a pleasure to watch these guys as they are great singers, but I wasn’t crazy over their song choice as once again I didn’t recognise the song. Photos of the family were in a montage behind them, just like the semi-final having a home video montage. If they would choose a song I know I’d love them more, but that doesn’t take away from the fact they are great singers. Oh and the back-up singers were unnecessary as they are great on their own.

Danny Posthill – If I’m honest his semi-final was good and I wanted him in the final. Tonight he brought his act to a whole new level, better jokes, better impressions of people he had already done, new impressions and more impressions done in the 2 minutes. Once again I want to sue for sore mouth muscles for laughing. Right now he is one of my favourites and would want him to win. However if he doesn’t I hope he gets a career out of this and doesn’t have to do the comedy club scene any more.

Old Men Grooving – Theme of their dance tonight was a wedding. I sincerely hope that the guy out of Old Men Grooving who was “getting married” used his wife in the act. Anyway they did great and I loved them, but I do worry now about them, they all seem to be out of breath.

Isaac Waddington – His song choice was his audition song. The stage had fairy lights behind him, and again like his semi-final performance I believe this is the best for him, otherwise overproduction would have distracted from an amazing, stunning and silence inducing performance.

 Jules O’Dwyer and Matisse  – There isn’t enough words to describe them or the right words to describe this act. They began with a pre-recorded footage of Matisse stealing sausages from the butcher, then live on stage Jules played a cop trying to catch him, he escaped from “jail” by walking a tightrope! Yes you read correctly, a dog walked a tightrope. Then hid in bins and just as he was about to be caught he showed where he put the sausages, then out came a 3 legged dog that he had gave the sausages to. David cried and said something like that it is just so sad, he stole the sausages for the 3 legged dog. Think that sums it up. They deserve to win.

So who do I want to win?

Simple: Jules O’Dwyer and Matisse as they have been consistently brilliant and I haven’t been able to take my eyes off them. It is good family entertainment and they can go far. They are top quality.

Issac Waddington won the public vote on last night’s show and The Neales were chosen 3-1 by the judges. I’m happy both of these acts got through but it does mean tonight definitely want some variety acts to go through so it doesn’t get too crowded with singers and dancers on the final.

Beat Brothers – Something my readers won’t know is that as a kid I took dance lessons. One part of the lesson was tap dancing. I loved it. I probably would still love it, but that’s another story. Beat Brothers are a group of 5 guys aged 19-23 who did tap dancing. Unfortunately their audition bored me so I wasn’t looking forward to their act tonight. When you love something, you want it done right and they fell quite below that bar for me. However tonight they made me fall in love with tap dancing all over again. They danced up and down steps. They even had a conveyor belt they tapped on and slides!

Misstasia – Cinderella would have been thrilled to watch this act. I’ll have to save the recording on TiVo until she has had chance to watch it. Why? She only has two favourite songs and they stuck to their Disney theme, and sang one of her favourites, Let It Go. I’ll agree with the judges that maybe their core demographic is kids, but hey adults love Disney too. I’d certainly buy their album. 

Emma Jones – I’ve no idea what she sang but I’m glad she has learned to control her nerves. It meant I wasn’t as focussed on worrying for her, but could relax and just enjoy a good voice. The lace on her black dress looked beautiful, so yes I should have been able to just watch and listen to her but was too busy thinking about where I could get a lace like that.

Danny Posthill – Once again I was laughing as he impersonated some current famous celebrities. I think my favourite was his Dec as he even got his gestures and facial expressions spot on, not just the voice. Though I do have an issue with his act. Can I sue for sore mouth muscles from laughing?

Jamie Raven won on yesterday’s show. UDI were chosen last night by the public vote as the judges once again couldn’t reach a majority vote. I’m sad that like Monday’s show the acts I wanted in the final aren’t going to be there, but I’m happy that some acts I love are in the finals.

Of tonight’s live semi-finals the acts I most excited to see were:

With that many acts to be excited over, did they all do as brilliantly as I anticipated? Or was I left disappointed? Read on to find out:

Ok WorldWide – They began by having all 4 me members lazing around on a giant orange sofa. They then all get energised and start their combination of various techniques, like free running and break dancing. They did their act mainly on a bouncy surface, prompting David to say that it was like a huge bouncy castle. I think that surmises it. Watching talented men doing their tricks on a adult bouncy castle. Can I have a go?

Lisa Sampson – The stage was set up like a 50’s retro diner and I think it was totally the right decision. The set really complemented the act. She began by spinning some hoops on herself then actors who were sitting in some of the booths and brought her things like a “bottle of cola(or something similar)” which she spun hoops on. She then set light to hoop and spun it on her foot and a actor gave her an on fire umbrella she spun in her hands. She gave the burning hoop and umbrella back to the actors and did the hula hoop slinky again. With the act over she began crying and when asked why, she confessed that she has made a mistake. All the judges reassured her they hadn’t noticed it so not to worry, and if she hadn’t confessed I think the majority of us (me included) watching would never have known. Oh well. I loved it, mistake or no mistake.

The Kanneh-Masons – The monochromed dressed siblings were arranged in the middle of the stage with various Greek or Romanesque pillars arranged about them. Again I’ll state it, I’m not a fan of classical music, but they are changing my opinion. Either that or my taste is maturing, or maybe a combination of the two. I think what is making them make classical music more accessible to a younger generation is that they don’t play one long piece, they are doing a mash up of classical pieces which keeps it interesting. I want to see them again and I guess that means I want them in the final and want to buy their album if they should bring one out.

The Neales – All four were in navy suits and the dad began the song with his sons joining in a few lines in. I have no idea what song they sang but it was touching. Add to that the family video montage of the family growing up had everyone tearing. They are good semi-finalists.

Maia Gough – She stated in the video before her live semi-final that she had tonsillitis and had been ordered by the doctor to rest her voice. Without that knowledge you would have no clue she had been ill. Why? She sang so brilliantly, in fact even better than her audition. The stage for her was stripped back to a glass platform and dry ice smoke/ fog machine which helped to show the beauty of her voice.

Jeffrey Drayton – At his audition his “assistant” or ventriquilist doll didn’t want to go in the canon, this time she didn’t want to go in a rocket or to Mars! Bonkers came to mind whilst I watched this act, in a good way. Enjoyable bonkers. After reaching “Mars” Jeffrey took his assistant and put her in a cage, placed a silver blanket over the cage and had some “Martians” spin the cage for him. Blanket was then taken away to reveal that the ventriloquist doll had disappeared and she had came “to life”, as out of the cage came a human version of the doll. I’m guessing a child actor from the height but hey it was fun to watch.

Isaac Waddington – An empty stage expect for a few lights, a piano and Issac. This was justt he setup for him, anything more and it would have detracted from Isaac’s beautiful singing voice and fantastic piano playing. His performance was so mesmerising, and I was actually disappointed when it ended. I could have kept listening. The judges appeared to agree with me from their comments and all 4 giving a standing ovation along with the audience.

After tonight’s performance I think there isn’t many acts I wouldn’t be happy to see again, but the ones I’d want most in the live finals are:

The Kanneh-Masons

The Neales

Maia Gough

Isaac Waddington

Britain’s Got Talent 2015 Third Live Semi-Final

Jules O’Dwyer & Matisse won last night on the public vote. I could jump for joy as I really wanted them to win. The judges couldn’t reach a majority vote for their choice so it went back to the public vote. The public voted Old Men Grooving as their number 2 act last night. I’m so pleased the 2 acts I loved got through.

Of tonight’s live semi-finals the acts I most looked forward to were:

Did I get as excited by these acts as I hoped? Or did I love another act that wasn’t on my radar? Read on to find out:

The Sakyi Five – The act began with the 4 eldest brothers centre stage in monochrome singing Love Never Felt So Good, clearly missing was the youngest brother. Who a few lines in, appeared behind the judges facing the audience for a bit of a solo then joined his brothers on stage. I agree with Alesha’s comment that it was a great start to the show.

UDI – Similar moves as was done toward the middle and end of their audition kicked of their act tonight. Making me think it was a continuation of the story. Maybe it was. However I struggled to follow the storyline this time, it was a little disjointed. Shame I was hoping to be very entertained by them.

Ella Shaw – Everybody’s Free was the song she chose to sing tonight. I’ve heard it as a dance track before but she sang it more stripped back with a host of backing singers, which was nice. As the golden glitter fell around her during the performance I couldn’t help but think that she has got a career in music but she should stick to the kind of song style and piano playing that she did at her audition.

Gracie Wickens-Sweet – A 11 or 12 (can’t remember which) year old singer. In a gorgeous white dress she was lowered on a swing from the ceiling as she sang a song called Reflection, which I’ve never heard before. At times I could see her nerves about to overwhelm her but amazingly they didn’t, she took control of her nerves not her nerves taking control of her. An adult can struggle to control their nerves  but for her at such a young age to learn to control them and have a powerful voice makes her a real contender for a spot in the finals.

IMD Legion – They had a few of their crew on stage to begin with, in navy/black outfits with silver at joints such as their shoulders. The rest of their crew either jumped on stage from in front of the judges or from the wings of the stage. Action packed, and again I found myself thinking they were on a par with Diversity (winners of BGT 2009). The theme for this dance made it a dancing crew of superheroes.

Based solely on tonight’s performance I would be happy for any of the following to make it through to the live finals:

Gracie Wickens-Sweet

IMD Legion

Britain’s Got Talent 2015 Second Live Semi-Final

Last night the act who went through on the public vote was Côr Glanaethwy. Entity Allstars (Alesha’s golden buzzer act) were put through by the judges. I’m sad neither of the acts I wanted to go through, went through but hey there is always tonight.

Of tonight’s live semi-finals the acts I most looked forward to were:

Alison Jiear

Jules O’Dwyer & Matisse

Old Men Grooving

The Honeybuns 

But did those acts match or exceed my expectations?  My views on those acts were:

Jules O’Dwyer & Matisse – This time Jules played a toy maker and made the dog come alive by winding him up and oiling his joints etc then the “toy” was “tested” as to his abilities, which involved a lot of dog dancing. We ended up with 2 dogs doing dancing. The second was a friend of Matisse,  both are super adorable and talented. Please let them go through!

The Honeybuns – I think to try and show Simon they can be a serious girl group they stripped back the glitz and opted for black outfits with glitzy accessories. They sang Hold On very well, and once again I wanted to be up on stage with them. They just need to add back a little more of the glitz as that is their personality.

Alison Jiear – Her song choice was Climb Every Mountain from The Sound Of Music. I don’t think it was the best song choice but she did it well. I think if the set was stripped back to a spotlight on her it would have helped, but that would have possibly been the show putting that on to her. Between the set and song choice I found myself a bit disappointed. Either one being improved would have made me love her more, as she can sing!

Old Men Grooving – The act began by the men saying goodbye to their respective “wives” when leaving “their front door”. They all then meet outside and start their old men doing young style dancing, including break dancing! It was fun to watch. I think if young ones were to do the same moves it would be good but what makes this act excellent is that it isn’t young ones, it’s dads and grandads. Good on them for keeping up with the times.

Based solely on tonight’s performance I would be happy for any of the following to make it through to the live finals:

Jules O’Dwyer & Matisse

The Honeybuns

Old Men Grooving

Britain’s Got Talent 2015 First Live Semi-Final

Thankfully this post is only a day late as the first semi-final was on Monday 25 May 2015. Parts of the reviews I made on the day, others later but where I have reviewed at a later time I’ve tried my best to give the thoughts I had at the time of first viewing.

Of tonight’s live semi-finals the acts I most looked forward to were:

Becky O’Brien

Billy and Emily England

But did my look out for acts match my expectations? Or did one I not expect to enjoy surprise me? Well my expectation acts and stand-out acts were:

Billy and Emily England – The act began with Emily in a plastic ball gradually opening as it was lowering from the ceiling, she emerged from the ball and her brother then began spinning her about. They were both in black and silver outfits and that was one of the few things that held my attention. I agree with Simon that music wasn’t right, it was bitty in the sense that they had to keep stopping and starting for different moves, and it was a lot of the same moves from the audition. I felt kind of let down and underwhelmed but I commend her bravery for the plastic ball, as she could easily have fell out as it was opening.

Becky O’Brien – Becky was in a stunning red dress and sang a song called If I Could. She said she found it online and it had been covered by some famous singers. If I Could is about a parent wanting to protect their child and that was the reason she choose it, as everything she does is for her kids. She did the song very well but I don’t think it did her justice, as it didn’t allow us to see her range but that said I want her in the finals.

Mitch & Cally The Wonderdog – I never mentioned them in my round-up, but Cally tried to break the world record of 100 balloons popped by a dog. In the audition Mitch had taped down balloons for Cally to pop but 1 broke free and Cally kept chasing it across the stage to pop so failed in breaking the record. The judges felt she deserved a second chance. I’m glad they did. They had an official Guinness Book of Records judge come on the stage and watch over the act. The world record holders were an American dog and owner at 44 seconds. Cally made a new record of 41 seconds! Simon mentioned if they get through they are arranging for the final a “balloon off” between Cally and the American dog! That could be fun, 2 dogs and 200 balloons.

My choices to go through to live finals from tonight’s semi-finals would be any of the following:

Mitch & Cally The Wonderdog

Was there any acts left for me to love tonight? Of course there was and they were:

The Kanneh-Masons – a classical instrument playing family. It was like having a mini orchestra on stage made up of siblings. They wowed the audience and judges with their ability to play fast up beat tempo and slower pieces of music. The audience and judges loved them so much they clapped and tapped along and gave a standing ovation. It was refreshingly different.

Jules O’Dwyer & Matisse – a dancing dog act. Jules played an evil dog catcher and everyone bought into the story booing her trying to catch Matisse. Matisse is a very talented dog, he and Pudsey (Ashleigh and Pudsey were the winners of BGT 2012) should team up. I want Matisse not just in the semi-finals but the finals! As Cinderella would say “he’s soooo cute!”. Ant and Dec jumped for joy when Matisse escaped from the dog catcher and “melted her heart”. Jules an Matisse got a standing ovation from the audience and judges.

The Honeybuns – a group of female singers. Maybe not the best vocals on this year’s show but you know what? I loved them. They made you want to jump off your seat and join them, and you do need acts like that to keep you from falling asleep! In fact the audience and some of the judges were on their feet and having a great time. They all have glitter filled outfits on, Simon commented on this that it was kind of cruise ship. One of the members asked that if they took the glitz and what you call cruise ship away would it matter any differently? Simon responded “I kind of think that’s part of your identity in a weird way” a bit of a pause and thinking face then “girls am gonna say four yeses”.

The auditions are now over so the semi finalists were then announced. In total there are 45 semi finalists, including the 5 golden buzzer acts. Out of the semi finalists who am I most looking forward to? The following acts are the ones am I excited to see, in a alphabetical order of the name of the act

Britain’s Got Talent 2015 Week 6 round-up

Another post which is late so apologies. Parts of the reviews I made on the day, others later but where I have reviewed at a later time I’ve tried my best to give the thoughts I had at the time of first viewing. Week 6 auditions were on Saturday 16 May 2015.

NB: This post gives a quick explanation of the golden buzzer. Remember too that this is just my opinion and does not necessarily reflect the view of the act or ITV/ Britain’s Got Talent. If you haven’t seen the acts below I’m sure you can find them on ITV’s website, or the app if you are in the UK, if not use that trusty search engine (looks a bit like the word goggle) to see if you can find videos of them.

What acts did I enjoy or are otherwise noteworthy? Read on to find out:

Leo Bailey-Yang  – a 7 year old piano player. He showed how well he can play by doing it blindfolded. He’s a smart kid to be able to do that at such a young age, then again there was some excellent classical musicians who were blind so maybe he’ll end up just as famous. After his four yeses, he skipped backstage showing how pleased he was.

The Sayki Five –  a singing group of brothers aged 11- 20. David was right when he said “your voices blend together beautifully”. The first song they were going to sing, they were only a couple of lines into when they were stopped and asked if they had another choice. Their second choice of Little Things was so touching to listen to.

Danny Posthill –  a comedian impressionist. He does it full time at comedy clubs and so on. Years of honing his skilled paid off as he had the judges and audience laughing. I loved his Michael McIntyre impression. Afterward he was talking backstage to Ant and Dec and hinted next time he’d impersonate them.

Emma Jones – a 23 year old operatic singer. I’m not a fan of this genre of music, but she is talented in this genre the only issue is her nerves. During the performance the mic was shaking so badly she had to use her other hand to help steady the mic and even then it still moved quite a bit. I’m sure with help from the production team though, she can be helped with her nerves making her an excellent choice for the semi-finals, after all she got a standing ovation from the audience and all four judges. Her surprise and awe at the judges comments is endearing. She was so grateful and constantly thanking them making her an even better contestant.

Lorraine Bowen – a woman who played the keyboard on top of an ironing board and sang about crumble. Doesn’t sound great, does it? Like the majority of people I’d agree with that comment but in classic David Walliams style, he loved the craziness and choose to give her a golden buzzer much to Simon’s dismay.
